Internships
Are you an Ag major? Or, just crazy about Alternative Farming? Do you like hard work, no pay, long hours, and to be miles from nowhere? Great... I do too!
Red Dog Ranch accepts interns during the summer months of June, July, and August. At Red Dog Ranch, interns are assigned very simple sleeping arrangements in exchange for 40 hours of work at per week. Intern work is hard, and is typically a mix of dirt farming, farm maintenance, bee keeping, and many other exciting things.
You'll learn organic farming techniques, organic pest control, organic weed control, how to safely operate farm equipment, irrigation techniques, construction, plasticulture, selling, marketing...my god, the list goes on and on! I will try to teach you everything I've learned, and maybe you can teach me a few things!
On the secluded banks of the Gualala River, interns share a common area with raised tents, open kitchen area, fire-pit, solar shower, and a pit-prevy. Your food will come from the field...but, I'll buy the steaks and beer after Farmers Market on Saturdays.
You'll need to bring a sleeping bag, clothes, personal items, some reading material, and you're set. Weekly trips to town are scheduled and email is availble in the Ranch office. Cell service is rare. (You will be returning to nature)
Red Dog Ranch only accepts 2 or 3 interns a year. For you to be considered for our internship program, please write me an email and explain why you are the one. Feel free to be creative.
